Mission Statement

The OSTRG mission statement was created by the original founders, and evolve over time, as we learn more.

The Open Sexual Trauma Research Group (OSTRG) was founded with a mission to uncover the scientific truth about sexual trauma, even in the most challenging and (sometimes) taboo areas. We conduct rigorous research using a variety of methods, including online approaches, to explore the forms of sexual abuse, the profiles of perpetrators, and the profound physiological and psychological effects on survivors. OSTRG also examines how society perceives, reports, and responds to sexual trauma.

In addition, we investigate the complex interplay of family dynamics in sexual experiences, as well as early sexual development and childhood/adolescent sexual experiences. This includes exploring how intrafamilial and relational contexts shape sexual trajectories, potential adaptive or resilience-related outcomes within difficult family environments, and the long-term psychological and relational implications. Always with a commitment to nuanced, evidence-based inquiry that respects the full spectrum of human experiences.

We are passionate about open science, and are excited to share our findings through reports, online platforms, and books. We engage in open discussion and welcome contact with fellow researchers, professionals, and most importantly, survivors of sexual abuse and anyone interested in better understanding sexual trauma. We are committed to fostering a more accurate and compassionate response to sexual trauma through open inquiry and dialogue.
